Cheruiyot: I played no role in rejection of Stella Soi as Gender CS

“I was approached and I recommended her for the job. It is only that I don’t make the final decision.”
Senate majority leader Aaron Cheruiyot

Senate majority leader Aaron Cheruiyot has broken his silence and dismissed allegations that he was involved in the rejection of Gender Cabinet Secretary nominee Stella Soi.

Cheruiyot asserted that he has no authority to influence the appointment of a CS as has been widely claimed by a section of leaders from the region.

Speaking during a church event at Litein in Kericho, Cheruiyot instead accused the particular politicians of peddling falsehoods solely to taint his image.

“As a senator, I have no authority to stop someone from being appointed. But, I want to thank them if they have prophecised that I will soon have the ability to appoint CSs,” he said.

“For now I am yet to get that ability,” he said.

Cheruiyot even explained that at one point he helped her gain promotion after having stagnated for long in her position as a deputy director at the Ministry of Housing.

“She came to my office and told me she needed support. I went to the Public Service Commission, and having missed a chance at that ministry, she was moved to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and made the director,” he said.

“If she comes here ask her if I never helped her,” Cheruiyot said, adding that the leaders pointing an accusing finger at him never helped her yet they had capacities.

Cheruiyot also admitted to having been approached to give his input on her suitability for the job since she is from his county.

“I told them I knew her and even recommended her for the job. It is only that I don’t make the final decision,” he said.

Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ngeno has been on record accusing some leaders from the Rift Valley of being behind the decision to reject her nomination.

“The president conducted due diligence before nominating her having been satisfied she was qualified for the position, and we thank him for that. It is only that some people from here came with spoilt it for her,” he said in a function in Bomet.
