Kenya’s adoption of electric vehicles is steadily gaining momentum, reflecting the country’s shift toward cleaner and sustainable transport.

According to data from the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), the number of registered electric vehicles has grown by 41 per cent in 2024, reaching 5,294 units.

This marks significant progress compared to just 194 units recorded in 2019.

The rapid growth highlights increasing consumer interest, government support, and private sector investment in e-mobility solutions.

With growing awareness of climate change and high fuel costs, the trend points toward a greener future, positioning Kenya as a leader in Africa’s energy transition.
